Casey’s Spotlight: Trump’s Proposed Budget Targets Older Americans and Americans with Disabilities

.

Dear Friends:

Last week, President Trump released his proposed Federal Budget for 2018, which cuts funding for or eliminates key programs for older Americans and Americans with disabilities. The President wants to slash funding for Medicaid, restrict access to Social Security Disability Insurance, and eliminate the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Today, I released factsheets explaining why the elimination of SCSEP and SHIP would be harmful for older Americans.

As part of my effort to preserve these vital programs, I have joined fellow Senators in urging the Senate Appropriations Committee, which will make key funding decisions for next year, to protect SCSEP and SHIP, and increase funding for Older Americans Act programs.

I encourage you to review these documents and share them with others.

Thank you,

Bob Casey
