Chairman Rick Scott Recognizes May as ‘Older Americans Month’ Following Unanimous Senate Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Rick Scott, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, and committee member Senator Mark Kelly celebrated the unanimous passage of a bipartisan resolution designating May 2026 as “Older Americans Month.” This bill emphasizes the importance and leadership of older individuals, recognizing their value in strengthening communities across the United States.

The resolution is cosponsored by Aging Committee Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand and committee members Senators Jim Justice, Andy Kim, Tommy Tuberville, Dave McMormick, Ashley Moody, and Elizabeth Warren, as well as Senator Susan Collins.

Chairman Scott said, “Our older Americans are the heart of our families and communities, offering wisdom, experience, and service that betters our country. I am proud to lead this bipartisan resolution once again alongside Senator Kelly, honoring the contributions of our aging community who paved the way for future generations. From reauthorizing the Older Americans Act to ensuring access to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, this Committee and I are dedicated to protecting the financial security and well-being of older Americans from coast to coast.”

Senator Kelly said, “Older Americans deserve dignity, high quality healthcare, and financial security. This Older Americans Month, we honor their contributions and will fight to protect the benefits they’ve earned.”

Senator Gillibrand said, “Our seniors have spent a lifetime working hard, and they deserve to retire with dignity. As the top Democrat on the Senate Aging Committee, I am proud to lead the bipartisan effort to designate May as Older Americans Month in recognition of the valuable contributions of our nation’s seniors. I will continue working to make sure that older Americans have access to the programs they need to age with health and financial security.”
