Chairman Scott, Ranking Member Gillibrand Announce Aging Committee Hearing on the Rise of Antisemitism Targeting Older Jewish Americans

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, April 30th, Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, will convene a hearing entitled, “Never Again: Addressing the Rise of Antisemitism and Supporting Older Americansahead of Jewish American Heritage Month in May. The hearing will examine the alarming rise in antisemitic incidents targeting America’s aging population, many of whom are now facing renewed threats, harassment, and violence that traumatize and destabilize their lives.

Witnesses will include a Holocaust survivor and leaders on the frontlines of combating antisemitism. Together, they will offer vital insight into the current crisis and discuss how federal, state, and community efforts, guided by strong leadership across all three branches of government, can better protect older Jewish Americans and uphold their safety, dignity, and well-being.

Witnesses for the hearing will include:

·        David Schaecter, Holocaust Survivor and Founder of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

·        Rabbi Mark Rosenberg, Senior Advisor and Chief Chaplain to Miami-Dade Sheriff; Chief Chaplain to FHP and FDLE; Director of the Chesed Shel Emes Florida

·        Ted Deutch, Former Congressman and CEO of the American Jewish Committee

·        Rebecca Federman, Senior Director of the Security Desk for the Community Security Initiative
